Through meaningful experiences together people with deafblindness can communicate with others, are empowered to make their own choices and to experience life to its fullest. At Sensity we offer a wide range of experiences to promote a sense of community and independence.
Sensity offers weekly music therapy sessions for people who are deafblind, both in individual and group settings. Music therapy uses music to achieve goals to improve the well-being and quality of life of participants. Music therapy improves the general mood of participants and encourages socialization through active and passive participation. Our regular sessions are led by an accredited neurological music therapist.
Pet therapy allows individuals who are deafblind to meet and interact with dogs and volunteers certified with Therapeutic Paws of Canada. Sessions are held twice a month. Interacting with an animal can release endorphins to produce a calming effect, which can help reduce stress, improve self-esteem, social, emotional, and cognitive skills.
Our Resource Centre in Paris, Ontario provides access to multisensory rooms and technology to assist people who are deafblind. This includes a Snoezelen Room, Music Room, Sensory Garden and our RC Store. We host a wide variety of monthly activities for people who are deafblind. Our Resource Centre is also used to provide training and continuing professional development to staff. We pride ourselves on being fully accessible and welcoming.
