Darby’s Custom Cards Thrives Amid the Pandemic

As we head into the holiday season, we wanted to share this incredible story of success out of Peterborough of deafblind artisan, Darby.

Back in 2020, program coordinator, Tyler George, and Darby, helped facilitate the beginning of a relationship between Sensity and a local not for-profit youth agency called: Youth Unlimited/The Bridge.

“Since the beginning of the relationship which began at the height of the pandemic this incredible organization has been a true asset to the Peterborough Program.  Darby and the Intervenors both have been able to be involved in some incredible give back projects that impact the community and put completed 470 Christmas hampers. Darby and her Intervenor helped put together for families in need In December 2020 “shared intervenor services coordinator, Tyler George.

Through this partnership, Darby put her artistic talents to work painting signs for the agency so that people were aware the centre was available to provide emergency support services during the pandemic.

Now as we end the year, this will be Darby’s second year of being provided a space to work on her business (@darbyscustomcards) The Bridge commissioned Darby to design this year’s holiday card.

“In reflecting, I believe this is one of the many reasons we provide the services we do! So that individuals like Darby can thrive. She has had such an incredible year during the pandemic. Card sales have been the best they ever have with so much support from people across Ontario. Darby has formed community relationships with the, the RC Store, Modern Makers Market, and connecting with her local church – which has provided her with space to focus on her work and SMART goals.” said Tyler George.

In the new year Darby will have the opportunity to utilize the churches kitchen and practice some baking and cooking skills.
