Knit, Crochet, Connect: Spreading Deafblind Awareness Worldwide

June 1 - June 30

Yarn bombing, also known as ‘knitfiti’, burst onto the scene in the United States around 2005. It’s a fun way to decorate public places with knit, crochet, or wrapped yarn, turning everyday objects into colorful masterpieces.

June isn’t just any month—it’s Deafblind Awareness Month! This is when we shine a spotlight on people on deafblind awareness. It’s a time for communities worldwide to learn about their experiences and celebrate their strengths. Throughout June, vibrant knit and crochet squares will embellish large trees, building fronts, fences, historical landmarks, breweries, parkettes, and more in communities across Canada and beyond.

Since 2021, Sensity has actively engaged in yarn bombing efforts, reinforcing its commitment to raising awareness for the deafblind community through creative expression and community engagement. Similarly, past yarn bombing initiatives led by Sensity have graced locations such as Paris, Brantford, London, Ayr, Wallaceburg, Toronto, and Sarnia, made possible through generous community support and donations of materials and knitted squares. Let’s continue stitching together awareness and support for a brighter, more inclusive future.
